I'll be honest, back in August when I received the news that my historical novel Lotharingia had been selected as a Page Turner Awards finalist, I was absolutely thrilled. I had decided to take part because the judges were all very high profile literary professionals, and making it to the finals was the boost my confidence needed as I was putting the finishing touches to my debut novel. As I congratulated the other finalists I realised that so many of them had incredible literary pedigrees and strong submissions, and I said to myself. 'This is an incredible result, be grateful and be realistic. This is as far as you'll go.'
So when the Page Turner Awards Shortlist email hit my inbox, I did not blink, I did not hold my breath. 'Let's just get it over and done with,' I said to myself, as I clicked on the link. I could not believe it when I saw my name there! I'm completely blown away!
